Wine growing and wine drinking are deeply rooted in what may be called “western civilisation” emanating from temperate climes such as the Mediterranean. Italy and France remain by far the world’s largest wine producers by volume with Spain in third place.

Mount’s Bay Wine Company’s wine portfolio reflects this dominance of our near European neighbours with over two thirds of our bottles emanating from these three countries. We do not ignore other significant wine producers though and we stock some popular wines from those countries which you would expect: Germany, Portugal, USA, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Chile and Argentina.

However, we also stock wines from some countries which you may not expect, such as Lebanon, Canada, Uruguay, Macedonia and, last but by no means least, Cornwall!

Yes, Cornwall boasts its own highly rated vineyards, probably the best known is Camel Valley, near Bodmin. Its sparkling and still white wines are of exceptional quality and Camel Valley's Sam Lindo won the UKVA's winemaker of the year for 2006. We also have an award winning vineyard here in Penzance. The Polgoon vineyard's 2006 Rose, won the UKVA's UK Best Rose title with its very first vintage! Needless to say, we stock it here in our shop.
