I guess that some of you, like me, will have watched the Dispatches programme on Channel 4 on Monday 15th September entitled “What’s in Your Wine?”  Basically it’s theme echoed one which I have been banging on about for some time – if you buy wine made by industrial scale producers, don’t be surprised if you get an industrial product!

Möet et Chandon and Veuve Clicquot were amongst those producers to be criticised in the programme. We do not stock those brands, something which has sometimes surprised some of our customers. I feel vindicated!

“Drink Less, Drink Better” is something I feel strongly about and I am convinced that the market is increasingly moving that way. The big retailers need big, industrial scale volumes. Independent wine merchants need quality – of wine and of service. I rest my case – rant over!

MOUNTS BAY RUGBY

As part of our sponsorship support for Penzance based Mounts Bay RFC we have a Stand Ticket available for all home games this season. The club has an unequalled record of success in the leagues, having been founded only in 1999 and this year playing in National League 2 for the first time where it will play fixtures against such famous old clubs as Blackheath and Waterloo as well as Cornish clubs Redruth and Launceston.
